April Webster and Nathan Fishbourne became known as the youngest parents in the United Kingdom after welcoming their son in 2010. April was just 13 when she became pregnant, and both were 14 when Jamie was born. Their story drew national attention, sparking both sympathy and criticism.
The couple were classmates at St. Cenydd School in Caerphilly, South Wales. April discovered she was pregnant just one day before her fourteenth birthday. She later admitted she felt “too embarrassed” to tell her parents about their relationship. The families were initially devastated. Nathan’s father said, “I told him he had been foolish and really got at him. However, we will now welcome Jamie into our family because we cannot reverse the past.” He added, “There’s no way we’re going to abandon him.”
Jamie was born in November 2010 by cesarean section. He had a malformed oesophagus and spent 11 days in the hospital before undergoing surgery. After treatment, he was healthy enough to go home. April lived with her parents, sharing a room with her sister, who helped care for the baby, while Nathan lived a few miles away.
Despite the challenges, April said, “Although Jamie wasn’t anticipated, I will be a wonderful mother to him. I’m going to give him everything he ever wants because he’s perfect.” However, their relationship did not last. In 2014, April shared, “I broke up with Nathan about three years ago; we’re not really in contact… However, there are no regrets.”
Today, April, now 28 and known as April Lianna, is a mother of three and in a happy relationship. Nathan is also engaged and raising a family. Though teen parenthood brought difficulties, both have built stable and fulfilling lives while remaining part of Jamie’s journey.
