Apple has issued an urgent iOS security update, warning users to install it immediately. The release fixes 39 vulnerabilities that could expose personal data or allow attackers to interfere with devices. According to the company, certain flaws might let hackers crash apps, access sensitive information, or run malicious code through harmful files, websites, or even physical access.
One issue stands out as especially dangerous. It affects the core system that controls how apps function on the iPhone — often described as a gatekeeper that separates apps from critical system data. If exploited, attackers could bypass protections and execute harmful code before safeguards react. Apple confirmed the flaw may already have been used in “highly targeted attacks,” increasing the urgency of the patch.
The update also improves security across Apple’s wider ecosystem, including iPads, Macs, Apple Watches, and the Safari browser. These enhancements aim to block spyware and stop unauthorized access before damage occurs.
Security experts caution that modern cyberattacks can remain hidden for long periods. While public figures are frequent targets, ordinary users are not immune. Routine updates remain one of the simplest and most effective defenses.
Users can install the update through the Settings app under Software Update. Turning on automatic updates ensures future patches are applied without delay. Possible warning signs of compromise include unusual battery drain, overheating, or unfamiliar apps. For those at higher risk, Apple’s Lockdown Mode provides stronger protection, though it limits some device features.
