Francisco San Martin, known for his roles on NBC’s Days of Our Lives and CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful, has died at 39. He was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Jan. 16. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office ruled the cause of death as suicide.
Born in Mallorca, Spain in 1985 and raised in Montana, San Martin began acting in children’s theater in the U.S. As a teenager, he returned to Spain, where he modeled, studied acting, and appeared in stage, television, and film productions.
He first appeared on Days of Our Lives in 2010 before being cast as Dario Hernandez. He played the role for more than 50 episodes in 2011. The character later returned in 2016 with a different actor. In 2013, San Martin appeared in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra. He later joined The Bold and the Beautiful in 2017 as Mateo, a groundskeeper involved in one of Sheila’s storylines. He also had a recurring role on Jane the Virgin in Seasons 3 and 4, playing Fabian Regalo del Cielo.
His additional credits included short films such as A Love Story (2016), Hotter Up Close (2022), and Dot (2022).
Following the news, his former co-star Camila Banus wrote, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend… Love you mucho mucho mucho; I wish I had told you more.” TV journalist Maichael Fairman also shared, “Very, very sad. I am a bit in shock, as I saw Francisco at my gym most every day.”
