The Romanian football community is mourning the tragic death of Luca Manolache, who passed away at just 19 after a mysterious illness. A promising talent for Metaloglobus București, Luca was forced to retire in August 2024 after developing severe symptoms, including dizziness, chronic fatigue, and bloody stools. Despite medical visits, the cause of his condition remained unclear.
Luca had been known for his discipline, passion, and dedication. His sudden departure from football deeply worried teammates and coaches, as his health continued to decline. Although he tried to push through, his symptoms gradually worsened, leaving his family increasingly concerned.
On February 28, 2025, while out with a relative, Luca became critically ill. In distress, he called his mother and said, **“Mum, Mum, I can’t do it anymore,”** before asking, **“Do you think I’m dying?”** Not long after, he tragically passed away.
An autopsy revealed he drowned in his own stomach acid after vomiting blood. The shocking findings devastated his family and the wider football community, especially as his illness had never been properly diagnosed or treated in time.
In a statement, Metaloglobus București said, **“Luca was not only a gifted footballer but a young man with a kind heart and unwavering love for the game.”** The club added that his warmth and dedication made him deeply loved and expressed heartfelt condolences to his family.
Tributes poured in nationwide, with many calling his death a powerful reminder of life’s fragility and the need to take unexplained health symptoms seriously. The club plans to honor his memory with a moment of silence and discussions of a youth scholarship in his name, ensuring Luca’s spirit and passion for football will not be forgotten.
