One Car Per House? Neighbor’s Plan Backfires Big Time

After moving into a new home, we quickly noticed our neighbor had strong opinions about parking. Even though there were no rules, she believed there should only be one car per household. Her frustration escalated when we found a note on our windshield demanding we move our “extra” car “or else.”

We ignored it at first since both cars were legally parked. But days later, we woke up to noise outside and discovered tow trucks hooking up both vehicles. Our neighbor stood nearby, smug, saying, “Maybe now you’ll listen when someone tells you the rules.”

Instead of panicking, I laughed, which confused her. When she asked, “What’s so funny?” I explained she had made a serious mistake.

Our cars had special permit tags under a government program for classic and specialty vehicles. Illegally towing them can lead to major fines—up to $25,000. Since she reported the cars, she was responsible. The towing company quickly realized the issue and unhooked the vehicles.

Her confidence disappeared instantly. “I didn’t know…” she said, clearly shaken. I replied, “Maybe next time you’ll think twice before trying to make up your own rules.”

Since then, she has avoided us completely and never mentioned parking again. The situation showed that sometimes consequences come naturally—when people create problems for themselves.
