For decades, Gina Maria’s Pizza was more than a restaurant for families in Minnetonka and Eden Prairie. Its red-and-white pizza boxes became part of birthdays, family dinners, and everyday routines, giving customers a feeling of comfort and familiarity that lasted for generations. Many people saw it not only as a place to eat, but as a tradition tied to memories shared with loved ones.

That is why the closure surprised so many loyal customers. Without a final goodbye or major announcement, the restaurants suddenly shut down, followed by reports that the company had filed for bankruptcy. The business reportedly owed nearly $3 million, with little remaining to repay those debts. Filing under Chapter 7 means the company will not reopen, as its remaining assets will now be sold off.

Even after the closure, part of the restaurant’s legacy continues. In Eden Prairie, a new restaurant called Pizzas Gina has opened in the former location. Owned by Ulises Godinez, the business continues using the original recipes while trying to preserve the familiar taste customers remember from Gina Maria’s Pizza.

The situation also reflects a larger reality faced by many communities when long-standing local businesses disappear. While major companies may close permanently, smaller independent owners often step in to continue traditions and keep familiar experiences alive for local residents who value them.

Although the original Gina Maria’s Pizza has officially come to an end, its story still lives on through loyal customers, shared memories, and “new beginnings that honor what came before.”
