Nancy believed losing Thomas would be the greatest heartbreak of her life, but she later discovered that his final gift was far more meaningful than she had imagined. At 73, she returned to her hometown, struggling financially and working again as a nurse. She had never married because she never forgot Thomas, her first love. Only a month later, Thomas passed away peacefully. Raymond immediately tried to involve himself in Nancy’s finances, but Walter soon revealed Thomas’s true plan. The documents Nancy had signed created a trust that protected her money, home, and future decisions. Thomas had discovered years earlier that Raymond had taken advantage of Nancy’s late Aunt Margaret and feared he would do the same to Nancy.

Walter then read Thomas’s final letter, beginning with, **“My dearest Nancy, please forgive me. I created a trap, but you were never the person I intended to catch.”** Thomas had arranged everything to shield Nancy from Raymond before it was too late. Inside a wooden box were the deed to Thomas’s home and fifty-five letters he had written over the years they were apart.

When Raymond threatened to challenge the trust, Walter calmly informed him every document was valid. Nancy finally stood up to him, saying, **“No, Raymond. I am a woman who was deeply loved. There is a difference.”** She moved into Thomas’s home and spent each Sunday reading one of his letters, realizing that although they had lost fifty-six years together, love had never truly left—it had simply waited for her to come home.
