Prosecutors said Derrick Callella contacted relatives “to see if the family would respond.” Although officials stress these messages are unrelated to the disappearance, the hoax intensified fear and confusion. Callella now faces federal charges for sending communications that falsely implied a ransom demand.
Friends describe Nancy as active and social, attending gatherings and book club meetings. She “never expressed fear for her safety” and lived an engaged, independent life. This sense of normalcy has made her disappearance especially painful for loved ones.
