Early Thursday morning, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, about 24 miles north of Detroit, was thrown into chaos after reports of an active shooter around 7 a.m. Authorities responded immediately, issuing a shelter-in-place order as employees barricaded themselves inside the facility.

A 25-year-old man was shot twice in the arm and treated for his injuries. He is reported to be in stable condition. Investigators believe the incident was isolated, describing it as a targeted attack involving a hospital employee who allegedly fired at a co-worker in the parking lot. Five shots were reported, with one striking a nearby vehicle.

Law enforcement launched a manhunt to locate the suspect. According to WXYZ-TV (7 News Detroit), the suspect was later arrested at a home in Macomb Township after surrendering to police. Reports indicate he answered a call from authorities and complied with instructions to exit the residence. Officials have not yet publicly confirmed his identity.

Inside the hospital, fear and uncertainty spread quickly. Staff members described frantic moments as the lockdown began, with coworkers warning each other to seek cover. One medical assistant recounted arriving at the parking lot when a colleague shouted for her to get back in her car because there was an active shooter.

She described seeing officers with weapons drawn moving through the parking structure, creating an atmosphere of intense tension. “It’s scary. You go to your workplace thinking you’re going to be safe,” she said, reflecting the shock felt by many who experienced the ordeal.
