19-Year-Old Football Player Drowns in…

Romanian football is mourning the death of 19-year-old Luca Manolache, a promising player for Metaloglobus București, who passed away after a mysterious illness. Despite months of health struggles that forced him to give up football, Luca’s life was tragically cut short.

Luca’s journey began with promise. Known for his “passion, discipline, and dedication,” he showed strong potential on the pitch. But in August 2024, alarming symptoms — including dizziness, chronic fatigue, and bloody stools — forced him to retire. Medical tests failed to pinpoint the cause, and his condition gradually worsened.

On February 28, 2025, Luca became seriously ill while out with a relative. During a heartbreaking call to his mother, he reportedly said, “Mum, Mum, I can’t do it anymore,” and asked, “Do you think I’m dying?” Soon after, he died. An autopsy revealed he had drowned in his own stomach acid after vomiting blood, shocking family, friends, and the football community.

Metaloglobus București expressed deep sorrow: “Luca was not only a gifted footballer but a young man with a kind heart and unwavering love for the game. His dedication on the pitch and his warm presence off it made him beloved by teammates and coaches alike.” Tributes poured in across social media, with many calling his death a “tragic reminder of how fragile life can be, even for the young and seemingly healthy.”

Luca’s story has raised awareness about the importance of thorough medical evaluations for young athletes reporting unexplained symptoms. His family is grieving a son whose potential will never be realized, with his mother reportedly devastated but grateful for their final moments together. Metaloglobus București plans to honor him with a moment of silence and discussions about a youth training scholarship in his name.

Luca Manolache may have passed away, but his spirit and love for football will not be forgotten.
