My Parents Sold My Daughter’s Heirloom for a Swimming Pool – Grandma Had One Crucial Document

The page trembled in my father’s hand. Grandma stood calmly across from him while the new pool hummed behind us. “What is this?” Dad asked, his face suddenly pale. Grandma tilted her head. “You know exactly what it is, Harold.”

Six weeks earlier, I had discovered that my eleven-year-old daughter Lucy’s antique cello was missing. When I asked my father about it, he casually said, “We sold it.” I was shocked when my mother told me the price: $87,000. Outside, workers were finishing a huge swimming pool. Dad simply shrugged and said, “Lucy’s only eleven. She’ll be fine with a student cello.” But Lucy was devastated. Standing beside the empty stand, she whispered, “Did I do something wrong?” I knelt beside her and told her, “No. You did nothing wrong.”

The cello had belonged to our family for generations, and Grandma had personally given it to Lucy. I went to Grandma and explained everything, including the sale and the pool. She listened carefully before asking, “And Lucy?” When she learned that Lucy believed Grandma had changed her mind, she became determined to fix the situation.

Six weeks later, Grandma arrived at the pool party with her lawyer, Andrew. They revealed that the cello legally belonged to Lucy, not my parents. The original documents named her as the owner, and the buyer agreed to return it.

Andrew also explained where the money had gone: $68,400 was paid to the pool contractor, while $20,600 went toward landscaping, furniture, and equipment. Grandma looked at the pool and said, “You may have spent every dollar, but you cannot spend away what belongs to Lucy.” The cello was coming home, and Lucy finally knew her grandmother had never forgotten who truly owned it.
