My Twin Brother and I Took a DNA Test for Fun – The Results Showed 0% Genetic Match, and My Mother’s Guilty Look Said Everything

My brother and I had always believed we were fraternal twins. We shared the same birthday, childhood, and family, so taking DNA tests seemed like a harmless way to learn more about how similar we were. Instead, the results changed everything. The test showed a 0% genetic match between us. Thinking it was a mistake, we tested again, but the result was identical.

Confused, we asked our parents about our family history. Their reaction immediately raised suspicion. My mother only said, “Those tests aren’t reliable. You shouldn’t have taken them.” Her response made me want answers even more, so I went to the hospital where we were supposedly born and asked to see the birth records.

The records appeared normal at first, but a nurse soon noticed something unusual. “You should know,” she said, “your mother is listed as having only one birth. She did not deliver twins.” I confronted my mother, and she finally revealed the truth: she was not my biological mother, and the boy I had always called my twin was not related to me by blood.

My biological mother had died during childbirth. With no relatives there to care for me, I was going to be placed for adoption. My parents learned what had happened and decided to take me home. They raised me as their own and told everyone I was their son’s fraternal twin because they wanted me to grow up feeling wanted and loved.

I understand that their decision came from love, but discovering the truth has left me struggling with my identity and questioning everything I believed about my past. The people who raised me are still my family, but I need time to process what happened, understand where I came from, and decide how I can rebuild trust with them.
