Slice pool noodles into rings and wrap them with string lights. You’ll see why everyone’s obsessed with this one.

Pool noodle ring lights have quickly become a favorite DIY trend thanks to their affordability, light weight, and surprisingly elegant look. A single pool noodle costs only a few dollars and can be turned into several rings. Once wrapped with LED lights, these simple foam shapes can resemble upscale décor pieces you might expect to see in a boutique—without the expensive price tag.

Another reason for their popularity is how easy they are to handle. Pool noodles are extremely light, which makes them simple to hang from ceilings, trees, walls, or patios without the need for heavy-duty hardware. The process itself is beginner-friendly; if you can cut foam and wrap string lights, you already have all the skills required to make them.

To begin, gather a few basic materials: pool noodles, LED string lights (battery-powered, USB, or plug-in), a sharp knife, and something to secure the lights such as tape, zip ties, or low-temperature hot glue. If you want to get creative, you can also add decorative touches like ribbon, faux flowers, greenery, mesh, or even spray paint.

Start by cutting the pool noodle into slices about one to three inches thick to form soft foam rings. Try to keep your cuts even so the rings look balanced and symmetrical. If needed, gently reshape them. For larger circular designs, you can slit the noodle lengthwise and reconnect it into a full loop using tape.

Once your rings are ready, wrap the LED string lights around each one in a spiral pattern. You can space the lights out for a subtle twinkle or wrap them more tightly to create a brighter glow. Make sure to secure the ends so everything stays neatly in place.

These glowing rings can be displayed in countless ways, from hanging them in clusters to lining pathways, decorating mantels, or using them as event centerpieces. LED lights are ideal because they remain cool and safe for foam, unlike traditional bulbs that can overheat. Beyond decoration, these creations offer a warm ambiance and a sense of luxury on a budget, making it easy to transform any space into something visually magical.
