Slice pool noodles into rings and wrap them with string lights. You’ll see why everyone’s obsessed with this one.

Pool noodle ring lights are becoming a popular DIY decoration because they are inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to make. A single pool noodle can create several rings, and when wrapped with LED lights, the foam can look like expensive boutique décor without the high price. “Anyone can make them” because the project only requires basic cutting and wrapping skills.

The project requires pool noodles, LED string lights, a sharp knife, and tape, zip ties, or low-temperature hot glue. You can also add ribbon, faux flowers, greenery, or spray paint to give the rings a more personalized appearance. Battery-powered, USB, or plug-in LED lights can all work.

Start by cutting the noodle into 1–3-inch sections to create small foam rings. Try to keep the cuts even so the finished decorations look symmetrical. For larger circles, slit the noodle, shape it into a loop, and secure it with tape. Once the rings are ready, wrap the LED lights around them in a spiral, leaving more space between the lights for a softer glow or wrapping them tightly for a brighter effect.

These glowing rings can be hung from ceilings, trees, walls, or patios because they are extremely light. They can also be grouped together, placed along a garden path, used as centerpieces, or turned into larger glowing shapes. The possibilities are easy to customize depending on the space and occasion.

LED lights are the best choice because they remain cool and are safer around foam. Traditional incandescent bulbs should be avoided because they can become hot. With very little money and effort, pool noodles and LED lights can create a warm, stylish atmosphere that makes an ordinary space feel surprisingly magical.
