THE STATE CALLED HER LICENSE PLATE INAPPROPRIATE AFTER 15 YEARS, BUT THIS MOM FOUGHT BACK AND WON

For more than 15 years, Wendy Auger of Rochester, New Hampshire, proudly displayed the vanity license plate **“PB4WEGO”** on her car. The message was never intended to be controversial—it was a playful reminder every parent knows: **“Pee before we go.”** The plate celebrated family road trips and the everyday chaos of raising four children, often making strangers smile and sparking friendly conversations.

Everything changed when Wendy received a letter from the New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles ordering her to surrender the plate. After years of approval, officials suddenly claimed it referred to **“sexual or excretory acts or functions.”** Wendy was stunned that an innocent family joke had been reinterpreted as offensive after more than a decade without complaints.

Wendy argued that **“PB4WEGO”** reflected a phrase heard in countless households before long drives. Living in a state with the motto **“Live Free or Die,”** she questioned why harmless humor was being targeted. To her, the issue was no longer just about a license plate but about whether common expressions should be restricted because of overly strict interpretations.

Instead of giving up, Wendy shared the DMV’s letter online. The story quickly went viral, with thousands of people supporting her and agreeing the plate was funny and harmless. Many parents said they had used the exact same phrase with their own children, turning a local dispute into a national conversation.

The growing attention eventually reached New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, who stepped in and reversed the decision. Calling it an example of unnecessary bureaucracy, he ensured Wendy could keep her plate. On August 28, Wendy announced she had officially gotten it back. Her victory showed that even a simple message can become a symbol of humor, persistence, and the importance of standing up for everyday freedoms.
