What Are These Strange Black Dots In Your Kitchen

Finding small black spots around your kitchen or dining area can be concerning, especially if they keep returning after you clean. While many people assume they are insect droppings, they could actually be spider droppings. Unlike the solid waste left by rodents or cockroaches, spider droppings are often described as **”thick, liquid-like stains”** that **”resemble tiny splashes of dark ink or paint.”**

These tiny stains are usually no larger than a pinhead and may appear black, brown, gray, or white, depending on the spider and its diet. They are commonly found on walls, ceilings, window frames, baseboards, or beneath spider webs, especially in quiet, undisturbed places such as corners, behind furniture, and near ceilings.

Although there is **”no strong evidence that spider droppings transmit disease to people,”** it is still wise to avoid direct contact. Wear gloves or use a paper towel when cleaning the stains, and wash your hands thoroughly afterward. Fresh droppings usually wipe away easily, while older marks may require a gentle household cleaner.

If the stains keep coming back, cleaning alone will not solve the problem. The best approach is to reduce the number of spiders inside your home by removing cobwebs, vacuuming hidden areas, sealing cracks and gaps, and clearing clutter that provides hiding places.

If you continue to notice spiders or recurring droppings despite these efforts, it may be time to contact a licensed pest control professional. A proper inspection can identify the source of the problem and help prevent spiders from returning, keeping your home cleaner and more comfortable.
